Introduction to Video Poker

Video poker is a draw poker game, where the player is dealt five cards. The player has to determine which cards they want to hold and which cards to get rid of. In video poker the player just clicks on the cards that they want to hold with the mouse and then hit the deal button and the new cards will come up where the discarded cards were before. The final cards that the player has shows whether they win or lose the hand.

Video poker offers great payouts and has one of biggest returns on any casino game. How is that possible? In video poker the house advantage lies on the player making mistakes in playing their hand and that is why there are such high returns offered. In video poker the object is to play all of your hands perfectly so that you can achieve the maximum payout percents. This doesn't take very much practice and there is not a system to it. To play perfectly is to play all the hands with the odds in your favor for any hand in any game type. There are a couple of different types of games to chose from when playing video poker. There are Jacks or Better, bonus type games, and wild card type games. In Jacks or Better you have to have at least a pair of Jacks in your hand to win. In the bonus games they offer payouts for extra things in your hand which are shown in the payout tables. In the wild card games basically they tell which card is wild and if you get that you can add it to whatever you already have in your hand, for example if the wild card game is deuces wild and you have two kings and draw a deuce then that would be counted as three of a kind. When betting in video poker you can bet from one to five coins in any of the available online games. You should bet five all the time for any game you play. The reason why is because it is the way to win the full payout percentage for any game. Video pokers jackpot return is at least 800:1 which makes it the best return for any casino game. So whenever possible bet the maximum allowed, that way you can win the best on the payout tables. The best game to start off on if you are a new player is Jacks or Better, it is easy to learn and easy to win. There is no bluffing, raising, and no poker faces in video poker simply put, you win you get paid. That way you can beat the machine if you know how to play the game type, and how good the payout tables are.

To really know how to play the game you have to understand the payout tables. Contrary to popular belief the payout tables are not just there so tempt you with how much money you could possibly win. Never ignore the payout tables, they are the key of how to play that video poker game. The player should see what the lowest payout on the table is to determine whether it is a good game to play. You should always know what to fold and what to hold out of your hand which goes along with the perfect play as mentioned earlier. A good tip in gaining the advantage over the house is to look at the pay table very closely. Find out what hands pay and learn to play your cards accordingly. You should be shooting for 100% accuracy in any game and become comfortable with how it plays. All of the video poker games are not the same, stick to one game type until you are sure you know exactly how to play before you move on to another more difficult game type. One thing that everybody wants to know when playing video poker is how to win. The return on any of the machines will be gained by how many hands you play. Its not likely to go play 10 or 15 hands and hit a royal flush, it has happened but not likely. The way you raise you chances is to keep playing your hands and think about them before you play. Perfect play as mentioned several times before is the ability to play all hands with perfect mathematical precision. This must be the goal for all players. This game is fun, but challenging. Every player should do their homework on the games that they like to play. Look at the pay tables to determine how you will play the game. In video poker the cards are ranked from the highest to the lowest as follows;

Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Ace
(aces can count as high or low).

When the player is dealt the replacement cards, their new hand is scored based on what kind of hand you are holding.

The points go from high to low, the highest is the royal flush at 2000 points and the lowest is a pair at five points. You might ask how do you know when to stop? Well the best advice is if you feel your mind wandering off or if you are feeling tired, then you should walk away for a while. If your concentration is not on the hand you are playing it is time to take a break. You should know where and what your limits are if you want to be a player that is also a winner. Here are the video poker hands from highest to lowest:
